Welcome to Chemistry!

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Grade level: 10-12
Prerequisite: Algebra I with a grade of C or better

Chemistry is a rigorous, one-year course designed to cover the basic concepts of chemistry leading to the understanding of the composition, properties, and changes in matter.  Study of atomic structure, bonding, molecular structure and properties, phase changes and behavior of gases, stoichiometry, solution chemistry, acids and bases, energy, thermodynamics, oxidation-reduction, reversible reactions, and chemical equilibrium are undertaken.  Laboratory and general activities that combine conceptual understanding with problem solving are integrated into this course. A large part of the course requires a comprehensive understanding of Algebra.

Note: Students that have successfully completed Chemistry may want to also take Advanced Chemistry, as it is articulated with Chippewa Valley Technical College General Chemistry 134, and earn 4 college credits. If you have the slightest thought that you may sign up for Advanced Chemistry, be sure to keep the your Chemistry notebook(s). We will continue to use it as a study tool in Advanced Chemistry.
