Welcome to Physical Science II, a.k.a. Applied Physics!

COURSE DESCRIPTION

PHYSICAL SCIENCE II
Grade Level: 10-12
Prerequisite: Physical Science I or Chemistry
Length: one semester

Physical Science II is designed to explore physical science in an active, inquiry, project-based fashion.  Physical Science II has a physics emphasis.  Related earth and space science concepts will also be covered.  This course is lab intensive and you will be expected to maintain an accurate log of you scientific studies.  In order to demonstrate mastery of the concepts and practices you learned during our labs and activities, we will be tackling three real-life, meaningful, and fun challenges.  They include designing, creating, and presenting:

  1. a safety system that will protect an egg in a collision,
  2. a roller coaster, and
  3. solar powered model home.
Introductory principles covered in this course will include Newton’s laws, energy and work, momentum, gravitational potential energy and kinetic energy, spring potential energy, forces acting during acceleration, force and energy, sound and waves, laws of thermodynamics, energy consumption, electricity and magnetism, and current.

NECESSARY SUPPLIES

  • composition notebook
  • scientific calculator

WHAT'S NEXT?

After completing Physical Science II, you should choose to take Physical Science III. Physical Science III will have a physics and earth and space science emphasis, specifically astronomy.
